Kyrgyz government criticizes attempts to destabilize the republic

BISHKEK, October 24 (RIA Novosti, Yulia Orlova) - The Kyrgyz government has sharply criticized any attempts to destabilize the situation in the republic, a government official said Monday.

"Nobody will be able to destabilize the situation or put the president, the government, and the legislative and judicial powers on their knees," Kyrgyz Prime Minister Felix Kulov said during a Cabinet meeting attended by several top law enforcement officials.

"Some forces are trying to agitate the society...to show that there is no authority, but they are gravely mistaken," he said, adding that the government would take decisive measures to maintain law and order in the republic.

About 500 protesters set up camp Monday in front of the Kyrgyz parliament, blocking all entrances to the building. They have demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Felix Kulov in connection with the murder of parliamentarian Tynychbek Akmatbayev, who was killed October 20 by inmates of a maximum-security penal colony, and have threatened to stay until their demands have been satisfied.
