Bumar launches bid for ammunition plant as part of Lockheed offset deal

Domestic arms group Bumar is expecting an offset project worth some $1.2 billion.
Roman Baczyński, the company's president, revealed that as part of the deal related to the purchase of F-16 fighter jets, Bumar has submitted a motion to the Economy Ministry for the delivery of technology for the Pionki ammunition plant, which is a part of the domestic group.
Thanks to the new technology, the plant would be manufacturing ammunition powder which would later be supplied to the Mesko and Dezamet plants.
"Today both companies have to import the ammunition powder. If the project were implemented, production could commence next year," said Baczyński.
Another project put forward by Bumar is enlarging the group by acquiring the arms production division of the Stalowa Wola Steel Mill. A decision in this field from the Economy Ministry is expected within two months. Yet a newer project envisages delivery of helicopters for the VIPs and is already in negotiations concerning potential cooperation with Eurocopter.
