President pledges non-visa travel for EU citizens 'in a few days'

President Yushchenko told a forum of businessmen and government officials in Kyiv on 11 March that Ukraine will introduce a non-visa regime for EU citizens "in a few days," Interfax reported. "In response, we would like to see understanding on the EU's part," Yushchenko said.

He suggested that the EU could reciprocate by lifting visa requirements for Ukrainian students, artists, journalists, and business people. Such a move, Yushchenko added, would show that "Europe is far-sighted" and that "it is welcoming the sprouts of democracy."
