Slovak Activists launch Anti-EU Constitution Drive

Slovaks opposing the EU Constitution have launched a campaign against the ratification of the draft document and are calling instead for a referendum on the matter.

The activists claim the Constitution represents a call for a European “superstate,” and would “confuse” relations between Brussels and EU member countries.

Ondrej Dostal of the M.R. Stefanik Conservative Institute told the CTK news agency the group had “reservations” mainly about the “further centralizing” of the EU and the transfer of more and more national powers to Brussels. Dostal also criticizes the draft document as “unclear.”

The goal of the campaign is to block approval of the Constitution in Slovakia.
