Hungary is sixth largest investor in Serbia

The Serbian economy went through a fast and obvious development in recent years and Hungarian companies contributed through being the sixth largest investor of the country, economy department head of the Hungarian embassy in Belgrade, Tamás Bakó said.

The Serbian economy grew by 6.5% on average in the last three years and the per capita GDP is estimated at $3,518. Inflation in Serbia is now under 10% and foreign currency reserves of the government have grown ten-fold since 2000. 30 banks operate in Serbia and more than three million people have bankcards.

Last year $4 million were invested in Serbia by foreign-owned companies and another $2-3 billion may follow this year. The bulk of Hungarian exports to Serbia are delivered by multinational companies that operate in Hungary.
